My Biggest Fan

Stuart Todd Whitworth's MomMy mom was my biggest fan. I can still hear her cute quirky little voice saying “Stuey!… you wrote every note of that song?! Wow, it’s amazing.” She loved hearing each new creation I put together and praising the craftsmanship that went into it.

Of all the songs I wrote while she was still with us, her absolute favorite was one called “Rachel Speaks”. Apparently an upbeat raucous attitude, intricate arrangement, singable melody, and naively optimistic premise proved to be the winning combination to secure the title of ‘Best Song Ever’ in the world of Barbara Whitworth. “Stuey!! That is the best song you have ever written! I am going to send a letter to Rachael Ray and ask her to have you on her show to perform it. She will just melt when she hears this song of yours that has her name in it, Stuey!” She made this comment about “Rachel Speaks” often, and the rest of us always had a good laugh about it.

2016 was tough year, especially October. A few days after Mom had passed, we were all at the house going through some of her stuff. My younger sister Stacy suddenly held up a few pieces of paper saying “Oh my gosh, Stuart have you seen this?!” My older sister Stephanie and I walked over to look at what Stacy had discovered. It was a hand-written letter from my mom to Rachael Ray telling her all about my song “Rachel Speaks” and asking her to consider having me on the show, she just hadn’t mailed it yet! It was so heartwarming for me to find out that Mom had actually taken steps to follow through on her sweet & optimistic little plan.

“Rachel Speaks” is track 13 on my new album “IF ALL ELSE FAILS“. I can’t wait for you all to hear the song that my mom loved so much!
